Spandauer Forst
Here's The Deal:
Spandauer Forst is the largest forest in Berlin. The forest extends over 1347 hectares in Berlin and is home to two nature preserves, Teufelsbruch (48 hectares) and Großer (30.5 hectares). The Berlin Wall Trail runs through part of the forest. The Forst is an EU bird protection area, offering bird enthusiasts and ornithologists excellent observation opportunities amid its diverse habitats. The forest contains numerous water bodies and provides a rich environment for insects, birds, and mammals. Explorers can encounter 240 mushroom species, 550 beetle species, and 150 species of spiders, as well as marvel at bird species like the kingfisher, little grebe, goshawk, snipe, and woodcock. For a closer encounter with wildlife, an observation tower near the Spandau district forester's office allows visitors to observe animals in enclosures, including wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and mouflon. The bathing area at Havel offers a refreshing escape with cool waters during the summer months. A cycle path is available.
