Spandauer Forst
“Spandauer Forst covers 1,347 hectares and is home to two nature reserves with the moors Teufelsbruch and Großer and Kleiner Rohrpfuhl. The route leads along old railway tracks, through dense forest, past pretty waters, a game enclosure and bogs under nature protection. The Berlin Wall Trail runs through the forest on the northern border with Brandenburg. The forest is a unique ornithologist experience as a designated EU bird sanctuary. Spandauer Forst contains numerous water bodies and provides a rich environment for insects, birds, and mammals. Explorers can encounter 240 mushroom species, 550 beetle species, and 150 species of spiders, as well as marvel at bird species such as the kingfisher, little grebe, goshawk, snipe, and woodcock. The bathing area at Havel offers a refreshing escape with cool waters during the summer months. Near the Spandau precincts, you can observe wild boar from a lookout tower and fallow deer, roe deer, red deer, and muflon in the enclosures. A cycle path is also available in Spandauer Forst.”
