Hauptkirche St. Michaelis holds a central role in the church music scene, with its choirs, trombone choir, children’s and youth ensembles, orchestras, and youth band. The cathedral fosters a rich musical tradition and significantly contributes to community life. The tower-blowing practice at Hauptkirche St. Michaelis has endured for over 300 years. 2025 Update: Hauptkirche St. Michaelis can accommodate more than 2,000 people. The tower is 132 metres high and a prominent feature of the city skyline, an unmistakable landmark. The church has six instruments that provide unique sound experiences. Three of them, with 145 stops, form the largest organ in Northern Germany within the church itself. All the organs in Hauptkirche St. Michaelis together contain more than 11,000 pipes. The church is partially wheelchair accessible.”
