“Schwanheimer Dünen spans 58.5 hectares, forming an inland dune in the western region of Frankfurt-Schwanheim. The area has been safeguarded as a nature reserve since 1984. Schwanheimer Dünen has been protected under the EU's Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive for over 22 years. This reserve comprises inland dunes and pathways through meadows, offering an excellent hiking experience. Schwanheimer Dünen secures a rare and endangered animal and plant species with several small lakes and forest regions. The silver grass, recognised as an endangered plant species in Hesse, thrives on small sand hills and embankments within the core area. There are two paths through the Schwanheim dune, in a north-south and east-west direction, which cross in the middle and have been designed with planks in the sandy areas.”
