“Südliche Fröttmaninger Heide is a nature reserve with hiking trails through heathland and a habitat for endangered butterflies, toads and orchids. This preserve is an area on the northern outskirts of Munich protected by the nature conservation ordinance of the government of Upper Bavaria and the EU's Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. The nature preserve covers an area of 347 hectares and was formerly a military training area. Südliche Fröttmaninger Heide provides a habitat for endangered species such as butterflies, green toads, and orchids. The trail adjoins residential areas in the Freimann district (Freimanner Heide and Nordhaide).
