Villa Hügel is a 19th-century mansion in Essen that was built in 1870-1873. It served as the home of the Krupp family until World War II. It covers about 28-hectare (69-acre) parkland. Villa Hügel has 269 rooms and occupies 8,100 square meters. The great hall, which is over 400 square meters in size, dominates the interior of the main building's ground and first floors. The hall is now used as a regular concert venue for the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen. The paintings in the main hall are well preserved, and the second floor has an extraordinary ceiling. Villa Hügel offers free admisson to employees of the thyssenkrupp group and Alfried Krupp Hospital.
