Grugapark Essen covers an area of more than 90 hectares. The park features areas dedicated to leisure activities, educational programs, and botanical research. Museum Folkwang was established in 1922 by connecting the Essen Kunstmuseum and the private Folkwang Museum. The museum has a 19th and 20th-century art collection, prints and drawings, German posters, and ancient and non-European art. The museum maintains an archive of more than 50,000 photographs. The integration of the Folkwang collection from Hagen into the Essen art museum formed the basis of the current Museum Folkwang collection. The permanent collection is displayed across 25 exhibition rooms. The association also publishes its periodicals for its members. Tickets and vouchers are available online.

Villa Hügel is a 19th-century mansion in Essen that was built in 1870-1873. The Villa Hügel served as the home of the Krupp family from 1873 to 1945. The place covers about 28-hectare (69-acre) parkland. Villa Hügel has 399 rooms and occupies 8,100 square meters.
